Conveniently Screen Your Bariatric Surgery Patients for Factors That May Impact Surgical Success—in Less than One Hour

The PAI Bariatric compiles the results of the PAI into a convenient report targeted to your bariatric surgery candidates. The results allow you to evaluate psychological factors that, if left unattended, may negatively impact bariatric surgery outcomes.

To assess your patients, log in to PARiConnect and administer the PAI either in your office or remotely. Make sure you’ve purchased PAI Bariatric Score Report uses, and then select the Bariatric Score Report to view results based on bariatric presurgical candidate norms. Download the report as an RTF or PDF to create your own report or share the results with other members of the care team.

FAQs

Can I use the traditional PAI® Bariatric to assess my bariatric patients?

Yes! The PAI® Bariatric Score Report includes bariatric candidate norms and information specific to assessing this patient population. To generate a PAI Bariatric Score Report, you first must administer the regular PAI.

What is the difference between the PAI Plus bariatric overlay and this new PAI® Bariatric Report?

The overlays are different on each report. The new bariatric report includes bariatric reference group normative scores. This new bariatric overlay is based on a different sample than the PAI Plus bariatric overlay. A subsample (n = 931) of approved bariatric surgery candidates was derived from archival data collected during psychological evaluations at an outpatient health psychology clinic (Oltmanns et al., 2020). Approved surgery candidates underwent bariatric surgery at a local medical center for weight loss surgery. Patients’ surgeries were considered successful if they had received follow-up care after surgery for at least 1 year and had achieved 50 percent or more loss of excess body weight as recorded during the last follow-up appointment.

I’m a bariatric surgeon. Can I purchase, administer, and interpret the results of a PAI® Bariatric Score Report?

The qualification level required to purchase, administer, and interpret the PAI Bariatric Score Report is C, which means you must have an advanced professional degree that provides appropriate training in the administration and interpretation of psychological tests or license or certification from an agency that requires appropriate training and experience in the ethical and competent use of psychological tests. Rely on the expertise of your team’s psychologist to administer and evaluate the results of the PAI.

If I generate a PAI® Bariatric Score Report based on a PAI item response set I already have, will I be charged for another i-Admin?

No. However, you must purchase PAI Bariatric Score Reports separately from other PAI reports.

Why is the PAI® Bariatric Score Report more useful for bariatric surgeons than the PAI Plus Score Report or the PAI Clinical Interpretive Report?

Although you administer the same PAI test to bariatric and nonbariatric patients, the PAI Bariatric Score Report includes information specifically for bariatric surgery patients, and results are based on bariatric surgery candidate norms.
