In our ongoing efforts to ensure the utmost security for our customers and their patients, students, and clients, PAR will soon be introducing multifactor authentication, or MFA, to PARiConnect. Please review the information below to learn more about MFA and what it means for you.
What is multifactor authentication (MFA)?
Simply stated, MFA is a process that adds additional layers of security to your account by requiring you to verify your identity in more than one way. For example, your password might be the first level of authentication while a code that is texted to you might be the second level.
Why is MFA being added to PARiConnect?
PAR is dedicated to providing the highest-level security to our customers, your data, and the data of your patients, students, and clients. By establishing additional levels of verification, we can better ensure that only you will have access to your account and data. MFA provides enhanced security by reducing the risk of unauthorized access, even if passwords are compromised. It helps protect sensitive data and account information.
When will MFA be implemented?
Enrollment in MFA will become an optional feature for PARiConnect users on February 1, 2025. After a grace period to allow users to become familiar with the new procedures, MFA will become mandatory later in 2025.
What does optional enrollment mean?
Optional enrollment means that users have the choice to enroll in MFA or to skip and wait for a later time. Upon logging in to PARiConnect, you will be provided the option to enroll in MFA. During the optional enrollment period, you may choose to enroll or you may choose to skip, in which case you'll be reminded to enroll on subsequent visits.
How do I enroll in MFA for my account?
You’ll be prompted to enroll in MFA on your next login to PARiConnect and given a selection of options to use for MFA (or the option to skip). If you decide to enroll, you may choose to use either Phone/SMS, or your account email address for MFA. Follow the steps to choose your MFA authentication method and to receive a code to verify your chosen authentication method. Once you have verified your method, you will have successfully enrolled in MFA and may proceed to the PARiConnect.
How does MFA work on this platform?
After entering your password, you’ll receive a one-time code on your registered device (like a smartphone or email). You’ll enter this code to complete the login. Once you have entered this code, you’ll be directed to your application.
Will MFA be required every time I log in?
Not always. Once you set up MFA, you may not need to reauthenticate on each login, especially if you’re using the same device and logging in regularly. However, under certain conditions, you may be asked to verify your identity again to ensure your account's security. This helps protect your data while making it convenient for you to access your account.
What should I do if I lose my MFA device?
If you use SMS or phone for MFA and lose access to your device, you may use the "Lost access to this phone?" link to initiate the account recovery process. If you lose access to your account email address, please contact PAR Customer Support.
Can I turn off MFA for my account?
No, once you have enrolled, MFA is mandatory for all users to ensure consistent security standards across the platform.
I share my email address and password with other users at my organization. How will MFA affect my account?
The experience for users who share their login information with others will be different with MFA, as the unique code is sent to the original user’s registered device. The MFA authorization prompt will likely occur more regularly for these shared logins and may cause delays logging in if the authorized user is unavailable for any reason. For the most secure and individualized experience with PARiConnect, each user should establish their own credentials to avoid complications and delays.
Will MFA slow down my login process?
MFA adds a small step to the login process but provides significantly enhanced security. Many users find it quick, and it greatly reduces risks to account safety.
