SIMS™

Screen for malingered psychopathology and cognitive symptoms in adults

Structured Inventory of Malingered Symptomatology™

This easy-to-administer 75-item, true-or-false screening tool can assist in detection of feigned or exaggerated psychiatric disturbance and cognitive dysfunction. The SIMS assesses both malingered psychopathology as well as neuropsychological symptoms in individuals age 18 to 99 years. The SIMS is available with both English and Spanish norms.

Evaluate Malingering in English or Spanish

The SIMS is a powerful tool when questions of malingering persist. It provides five scale domains—Psychosis, Low Intelligence, Neurologic Impairment, Affective Disorders, and Amnestic Disorders—as well as an overall score for probable malingering. The SIMS shows sensitivity with honest responders, psychiatric patients, and clinical malingerers. Written at a fifth-grade reading level and self-administered, the SIMS is an ideal tool when clinicians believe a client may be feigning symptoms.
